Camden residents will soon a change in how the city delivers and manages utility services. The city is introducing two major upgrades: a new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system and an after-hours response management tool called Daupler. Together, the initiatives aim to improve accuracy, responsiveness and customer service across water, sewer and electric services.

City Manager Matt DeWitt said the improvements reflect Camden’s commitment to keeping pace with modern technology while making life easier for residents. “This technology allows us to provide more accurate billing, respond faster to issues, and give residents the tools they need to manage their utility usage effectively,” DeWitt said. “We’re excited about the positive impact this will have on our community.”

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

Installation of AMI meters begins next week, starting with water meters. The system uses secure wireless signals to send real-time data between utility meters and the city. That means residents can expect more accurate billing, quicker detection of water leaks or unusual energy use, and better information about their household consumption.

All water meters are located outside in pits or vaults, and electric meters are mounted on the exterior of homes and businesses, so no entry will be required. Residents should see minimal disruption during the installation process, which will continue into early 2026.

“The AMI system will allow the City of Camden to greatly enhance customer service, accuracy and transparency,” said Jack Thornsberry, director of public utilities. “Customers will be able to drill down and analyze electric and water consumption at their homes and businesses.”

Daupler Response Management System

Also launching this month is Daupler, a system designed to streamline after-hours service calls. When residents call in a problem—such as a power outage, downed line, or water main break—outside of business hours, Daupler will answer as the City of Camden, record details, and automatically route the call to the appropriate staff member.

If the first employee does not respond, the system escalates to the next person on the list, all the way to a supervisor if needed. It also provides overnight digests for staff, prevents duplicate notifications during major events, and generates heat maps to help identify problem areas.

“Daupler is a game-changer for how we manage after-hours calls,” Thornsberry said. “It ensures that residents can report issues knowing their call will be handled promptly and efficiently.”

DeWitt added that the system is also about building trust. “Whether it’s routine updates or urgent service alerts, Daupler helps us keep our community informed in real time and strengthens the partnership between the city and our residents,” he said.

What Residents Should Know

  • AMI: Installation of water meters starts next week, with electric meters to follow in early 2026. No entry into homes or businesses is required.
  • Daupler: Residents should continue using the Connect Camden app, the city website or social media for updates during major weather events, but after-hours service calls will now be managed by the new system.

With these upgrades, city officials say Camden is taking a major step toward modern, reliable and customer-friendly utility services.
