Catawba Stories & The Trickster Spirit | History, Folklore, and the Unseen

Saturday, October 11 | 11:00 AM
Historic Camden – McCaa’s Tavern (North Room)
222 Broad Street, Camden, SC
Presented by Kassidy Plyler of the Catawba Cultural Center, this session offers an overview of the Catawba people’s history—both celebrated and shadowed. With a focus on folklore, Plyler will explore the Nation’s storytelling traditions, including the enduring figure of the trickster: a character of mischief, wisdom, and cultural memory.
This conversation invites reflection on how Indigenous oral history, mythology, and cultural resilience shape both personal and regional identity in the American South.
